Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) Sent 10 Delegates to NPEO 2022 

Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) sent ten students to participate in the 2022 National Polytechnic English Olympiade (NPEO) this May. The nine students came from the Language, Communication, and Tourism Department, and the rest of them came from another department. The ten students became representatives to participate in the debate competition, newscasting, and storytelling in NPEO 2022. Along with guides from the English study program’s lecturer, they flew to Padang to join the competition.

The National Polytechnic English Competition, also known as NPEO, is an English-language competition for vocational universities. It was held for the first time at the Politeknik Perkapalan Negeri Surabaya (PPNS) in East Java with the addition of a Public Speaking Contest, which consists of Speech, Story Telling, and Newscasting competitions. As time goes on, many vocational universities in Indonesia have participated in the competition, such as Polije.

Polije has participated in the event in recent years. Students of English study programs, along with students in other departments, contribute to get achievement in the event every year. Polije’s contribution to the event led them to win achievements in the competition. It is proven that polije students are indeed competent students in their fields, especially students from the English study program in the Language, Communication, and Tourism Department.

The language, communication, and tourism department are one of the eight majors at the Politeknik Negeri Jember. A 3-year-diploma (D3) English study program and a 4-year-diploma (D4) tourism destination study program are the two study programs included in this department. As the name implies, this department focuses on language science and communication and teaches applied tourism to its students.

The applied subject expected students to have beneficial skills in the industrial world. Throughout NPEO, Polije already prepares students to sharpen these skills, especially public speaking skills. NPEO is becoming an event to increase the hard skill of public speaking as we know that public speaking is the most important skill in the industrial world. No wonder, this event is becoming a prestigious event to prove student's value in front of the industrial partners.
